Abstract

Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 poses a considerable technical challenge for the cocoa export chain in Colombia, as it requires demonstrating, with verifiable geospatial evidence, that production sites have not undergone deforestation processes after December 31, 2020. Meeting this requirement makes it essential to adopt tools and methodologies capable of guaranteeing the territorial traceability of production systems. This internship was developed within the Beanchain project, an initiative that seeks to strengthen cocoa traceability through digital technologies, and focused specifically on building a geospatial component to support territorial verification processes in accordance with this regulation.
