Empowering Cocoa Communities with BeanChain’s Traceability Technology
New Blockchain-Powered System Bridges Farmers and Consumers, Ensuring Transparency from Farm to Fork
August 21, 2025

Enciso Systems, a leader in scientific web applications and data processing, is proud to announce the official launch of BeanChain, a revolutionary blockchain-powered traceability system for the global cocoa supply chain. The presentation of BeanChain took place at the Colombia 4.0 event, organized by MinTIC in Villavicencio and broadcasted by Canal 13. Designed to address long-standing challenges of opacity and inequity, BeanChain provides unprecedented transparency, directly connecting consumers to the origins of their chocolate and ensuring that cocoa farmers receive fair compensation for their work.
BeanChain leverages distributed ledger technology to create an immutable record of a cocoa bean’s journey, from the moment it is harvested to its final destination as chocolate. This system allows every participant in the supply chain—from small-scale farmers to large manufacturers—to securely log their contributions, creating a single, verifiable digital trail. This level of granular data collection not only empowers farmers with a clear record of their sales but also provides manufacturers with real-time insights into their sourcing, combating fraud and ensuring the integrity of their products.
The launch has been met with enthusiasm from key collaborators. “Projects like BeanChain represent the future of agribusiness and technology in our region,” says Emerson Durán, Director of Cluster Orinoco TIC. “By providing a clear and secure mechanism for traceability, we are not only empowering our cocoa farmers economically but also positioning our local industry as a global leader in ethical production.” This direct empowerment is a core tenet of the BeanChain initiative, ensuring that the benefits of transparent supply chains are felt most by those at the source [1].
In addition to economic empowerment, BeanChain is set to drive tangible sustainability. The system provides a platform for documenting and verifying eco-friendly farming practices, such as agroforestry and biodiversity preservation. Furthermore, its robust traceability features are specifically designed to help companies comply with stringent international standards, including the newly enacted EU Regulation 2023/1115 on deforestation-free supply chains [3]. This makes it possible for consumers to support brands that align with their values and for producers to be recognized and rewarded for their sustainable efforts. “From a technical perspective, BeanChain is about creating a system of trust that anyone can verify,” says Yarlinson Barranco, Blockchain developer and Intern at Enciso Systems. “The blockchain isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the backbone of a new kind of accountability, proving that what's good for the planet can also be great for the people who produce our food.” [2]
Notes
- Farmer Empowerment: The system provides farmers with a digital identity and a ledger of their transactions, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring fair pricing.
- Environmental Integrity: BeanChain's data tracking capabilities allow for the certification and verification of sustainable practices, such as water usage and land conservation, offering a new standard for environmental stewardship.
- EU Regulation 2023/1115: This regulation requires companies to ensure their products, including cocoa, are not linked to deforestation or forest degradation, and that they are legally produced.
